My wrist is broken.
Which would explain why it hurts lately, Consequently, my productivity is going to be pretty low for a while.
However, I had to jump on this.
The trailer for a new animated Star Trek animated series has been dropped. It looks like everything else I’ve come to expect from CBS All-Access Trek.
Utter. Crap.
It will come as no surprise to you that Netflix and Amazon said, “no, not doing it. Take your suck someplace else.”
First of all the biggest problem with a Star Trek comedy, where all the action takes place with the swabbies that keep the ship running, is that they should have done it twenty years ago. By now it’s already been done to death by everyone else. Everybody and his second cousin has done a Star Trek parody. From Galaxy Quest to Orion Slave Girls Must Die!!! From Futurama to Fraiser. It’s all been done before. Even John Fucking Scalzi has done one (and was ludicrously over rewarded for it). It has been done to death over past fifty years.
Second, it doesn’t feel like Star Trek. Not a surprise, CBS hasn’t gotten anywhere near the mark yet. What it mostly feels like is Rick and Morty. Except, I occasionally laugh at Rick and Morty. I didn’t crack a smile once while watching this trailer. And lets face it, the trailer is where you are going to stick your funniest jokes if you are making a comedy.
Anyway, you should judge this thing for yourself.
And then watch the Orville, if you want the real thing.
Yea gods, that is horrible. How does this stuff get made? It’s completely generic, not Trek, and boring.

I could see this working but only if you had all the misfits in star fleet on one ship. Unfortunately, this has already been done better animated and a hell of a lot funnier than this in “The Irresponsible Captain Tylor” Anime Series. That came out in what, 1994? They have missed the boat on this by 24 years.
This has epic fail written all over it.

I’d like to recommend a more “Trek -specific” parody, but it appears that “Ensign Sue Must Die!” (a webcomic parody of “Mary Sue” type fan fiction characters) has already been taken off the web. And it began in 2009 (11 years ago.)
