The Good is that Disney won’t have too much trouble reskinning it for use as a Mandalorian ride. Which they will have little choice about doing after Star Wars 9 crashes and burns in couple of weeks. Although, reskinning it as OG Star Wars would be even less difficult.
The Bad is self-evident if you’ve seen Shanghai Disney’s version of Pirates of the Caribbean. Compare the two and it’s obvious which one feels the cheapest.
The Ugly is the fact that Bob Chapek has dictated that all dark rides built from now on will be built with reskinning in mind. The plan is to be able to redress all new rides every eight years. The dark rides are going to suck from now on because Chapek doesn’t like spending money on single use animatronics.
And that’s a tragedy. Walt Disney said, that ‘Disneyland could only have been built by a movie company.’ And it’s true, from the forced perspective design of Main Street USA to the hamming it up of the Castmembers, it could only have been built by old fashioned showmen.
The modern Disneyland could only have been built by accountants.
Rule of Cool vs. Rule of Con.
