I can’t help but wonder why the hell they are making the Black Widow movie?
Typically speaking, a prequel that features a character that died in the previous movie, doesn’t do all that well in the box office. I mean, why would you take an interest? Even if you really, really liked the character it’s like looking in on an old friend who is DEAD.
It’s kind of depressing. And it’s a bad idea if you want to make money. Disney/Marvel is now heavily converged and if Girl-Thor is anything to go by, the MCU is on a downhill skid.
Hell, there is a big question over whether or not Marvel Comics will still be published. (By the way it looks like New Warriors has been quietly shot in the neck. Cataline sheds a tear).
However, Marvel films have had a few decent things going for it in the past, so maybe there is a better reason than encroaching incompetence for making Black Widow.
From what we can see from the trailer, and from MICKEY AUTHORIZED statements from Johanson herself, we know that this film takes place between Civil War and Infinity War.
So during that period Natasha Romanoff is a fugitive on the run for taking Captain America’s side when the Avengers broke up.
This was Natasha’s look at that time.
And here was Black Widow the next time we saw her in Infinity War.
Now, the simplest explanation is that Black Widow simply changed her look.
But here is Yelana Belova’s costume from the upcoming movie.
Note, the exact same hair and the exact same vest zipped in the exact same way.
There is also a scene from the trailer that I have not successfully capped, that shows Yelena on a surgery table with what appears to be a seam at the top of her head.
This raises the legitimate question of will Natasha and Yelena exchange faces for some reason in Black Widow?
If so, will we be seeing more of Scarlett Johansson?
The answer to that last one is, “no.” Johansson’s contract with Marvel is now up and on top of that, she is thirty-five which means her Hollywood Red Blinking Palm Crystal has gone off. She is now past her sell-by date.
Florence Pugh who plays Yelena is twenty-four, so she has at least four movies in her before it’s her turn to report to Carousel.
And then there is this very telling answer that Pugh gave when asked, if the Yelena character was going to be the new Black Widow going forward?
“No, I actually will say when we were making it, it wasn’t anything like that at all. And I am saying it very honestly, it certainly didn’t feel like a passing of the torch kind of film when we were making it. And I think the direction and the feeling and the vibe behind it was genuinely just trying to make this complicated and painful story. And do it justice because a lot of fans have been waiting for her film. And also a lot of people I think will appreciate this story.”
Did Yelena switch faces and places with Natasha Romanoff? Was it Yelena that died on Red Skull planet with Natasha’s face, and the real Natasha is still alive but with Florence Pugh’s face now?
Only time will tell. And also the internet because I’m not going to be seeing this one.

What an utterly retarded idea. They’re totally going to do it.
Slight change: instead of changing faces in BW, they’ll install in Belova’s mind some neural implant thing; the post-credits scene will be a replay of Romanoff’s death in Endgame, followed by the revelation that, when she died, her mind was transferred into Belova’s, making both characters usable.

Exalt is ……probably hitting the nail on the head on bullshit keeping both characters viable. Which is good for Devil Mouse decline, so I’m glad Satan’s company is taking a hit, but…ugh, just terrible story-telling. Plus, it’s hard to see the train-wreck happening and not feel bad for the passengers about to crash that AREN’T evil (regular employees of Disney).
Still, die Devil Mouse, die die die.

Why are you asking this question? Comics broke death in the 90s, so of course she will come back. They’ll all come back forever, and ever.

There’s a difference: comic book heroes can avoid old age and death, the actors that play them can’t; so, while Black Widow in general may be immortal (at least until people stop caring about her and writing her stories, which may very well happen in the not-too-distant-future) MCU!Black Widow may not be so.

Comic books and soap operas can do it. Movies and TV shows can’t because it kills the tension. Honestly, it hurt Endgame to bring back so many of the characters. Bringing back one of the ones who really died in Endgame is probably a bridge too far.
Also, it didn’t work out too well for Star Wars.

I’d argue it worked in Endgame because they only brought back the ones taken out by the Snap, and especially if you consider Endgame the END of the MCU saga. Which I do – I don’t plan on watching any more Marvel movies, and I’m just happy it wrapped up with the heroes being heroic and not disgraced and degraded. Stark and Cap went out like bosses, Thor got a redemption, and even Hulk got his moments (but clearly he was supposed to be having a rematch with Thanos at the end, NOT Captain Marvel).
Brie Larson/Captain Marvel was undoubtedly grinding her teeth at not being the savior and having to wait till the next set of movies to butt in and put the patriarchy in its place. I look forward to not watching.
It had a couple unavoidable instances of poz, but overall, I consider Endgame a win for our side. Undoubtedly the last win we’ll get in mainstream pop culture, which marks as good a time as any to dump it altogether.
